A big thank you for a great day

Posted by paulinedutton on 19th May 2010

I’d like to say a big, big thank you to everyone involved in making the regional event on 17th May a successful experience.

We had a full programme of activities and thanks to the Chair, and our key speaker we managed to keep within the context of the day and fit everything in!

Presenters brought their 2009-10 EVC  projects to life, sharing their approach, achievements and challenges along with the impact these activities had on others. We had an added pleasure of hearing from individuals who were active participants in the projects and the difference it made to them.

Delegates had plenty of networking opportunities and took part in discussions during facilitated workshops on Asset Transfer, Social Media, Co-production and Take Part. They heard from the experts in their field and learned of the types of circumstance that could benefit from utilising the tried and tested approaches. These are also key themes running  through the final year of the programme.

Take time to browse through the website and pick up on anything you missed -  and share the links with your colleagues and partners!

I hope you found the event useful and feel encouraged to join in empowerment activities in the final year of the programme.

Making Community Strategies Work for Communities – Event Evaluation

Posted by nataliewynn on 18th May 2010

Thank you to everyone that attended yesterday’s event.  It was great to see so many people there and it was lovely to put faces to names of people that I have heard so many good things about.  In order for RAWM to evaluate the effectiveness of the event for all the attendees, it would be great if you could complete the evaluation form below (if you didn’t fill one in on the day).  Thanks!

It’s the day after the ‘Making Community Strategies Work for Communities’ event and I’m busy going through all the evaluation forms that attendees kindly filled in for us, thank you to all those who found time during the packed agenda to fill them in.  If you didn’t get chance to complete evaluation forms I’ve included the one for the workshop evaluations here. I’d really appreciate it if you could find a couple of minutes to just fill it out for us here. Many thanks.

EVC May Event: Conrad Parke of Regen WM on New Deal for Communities

Posted by Andrew Brightwell on 17th May 2010

Regen WM is the regeneration centre of excellence for the region Conrad said they work with practitioners around the region.
Conrad started by talking about the New Deal for Communities programme. It was set up in 1999. Each of the communities involved got £50m to invest. He said that the only way of justifying it is to learn from what happened.

Regenwm wanted to extract the lessons learned from New Deal for Communities – understanding the current context and learn how to pass on those lessons.
The work was delivered in partnership with

Conrad said it wasn’t about what they did but how they did it, because these themes would be transferable.

They asked serious questions about how they went about the projects and what they would do differently. Refreshingly, people were happy to talk about mistakes.

Interestingly he said that the high level of funding was an obstacle.

What they learned:

  • Less money = less interference
  • Less money= focused on the right things
  • Less money = better partnership working
  • Less money = more meaningful community engagement.

Conrad said that you can’t just communicate you have to embed

Again and again, he said, people talked of  issues such as having the right staff involved.

He also stressed how important it is to see partnership working as an ongoing process, not something you’d aim for.
